WORK IN PROGRESS

The stories behind the brand --- inspiration, design, fabrics and the thinking behind each piece...

In September 1979, I gave birth to my son, Max.  During my pregnancy, I realised there was very little interesting baby clothing designed in the UK — apart from Mothercare. There were beautiful French 🇫🇷 and Italian 🇮🇹 designs, but they were expensive and hard to find.

So I started making little pieces for him… see original  😊👶🏻 these little Dungerees, they would become the iconic style No 03 a Nipper Classic 😊

That was the moment the seed was planted.

Should I move away from womenswear?
Should I start designing clothing for babies?

Real clothing. Fun.  Functional. Thoughtfully designed. 👶✨

I pretty much knew when baby 👶🏻 Max arrived that my womenswear days were over.

Years earlier at college, when I’d shown interest in maternity and children’s wear, I was told:

“No. Nobody is interested in designing for those markets. Womenswear is the way to go.”

And yet… here I was.

I knew I couldn’t do it alone.

We loved Jelly shoes at Nipper they were perfect addition for our summer collections and Brighton's pebbly beaches - 8, sizes 20 - 34
