First Catalogue 1981 - 82
Somewhere in the early 1980s....... the Nipper mail order was born.
We had always felt that mail order would be the way forward. Even in our very first editorial in The Argus (Femscene page, 8 May 1980) it was mentioned:
“Next stage of the enterprise: "We hope to introduce a mail order business."
Nearly a decade later, Parents Magazine (1989) explained how it actually happened..........
“The ?mail order — now a thriving side of the business — began quite simply. One day we dressed Max up in Nipper clothes and went to visit three magazines — Good Housekeeping, Vogue and Woman’s Journal.
All three wrote about us but the Woman’s Journal’s editorial definately that struck a cord....suddenly letters with cheques began arriving in the post, asking for the clothes that had been illustrated. Julia set to work illustrating the 1st mail order booklet....Simple black and white drawings each garment carefully illustrated by Julia.... with fabric swatches hand cut and stuck onto the pages.
